The Life and Writings of Sylvia Plath After reading and discussing many poets and their written work, I have realized that not only pain, but any emotion that the poet is feeling, plays a large part in how the poems express themselves through their writing. I have chosen to explore Sylvia Plath and the poems she has written and how her pain and personal experiences have influenced her poetry. Similar to many other authors of the twentieth century, Sylvia Plath’s writing was influenced largely by her depression and mental illness. I found it rather interesting that her life began during The Great Depression and that from a young girl at the age of eight she was suffering and battling her own personal depression. One example of this would be that she gave the tulips life- like characteristics. This is a great example of how one might assume Plath was trying to get her fears of being a mother out. Although, she loved her children, she still somewhat pictured a baby as awful. Sylvia started her writing shortly after her father’s passing and increased in emotional force as she got older and matured. The more pain she felt and the more she suffered, the more intense her literary work became. Her life was obviously filled with pain and agony. It has ruined the shoreline, killed animal and sea life, threaten the ecosystem and harmed the tourism and fishing in Louisiana. Right after the leak happened, the Obama administration has claimed that BP alone has to take the whole responsibility of the oil spill. However, as the oil slick in the Gulf of Mexico continues to grow day by day, some people are starting to ask if President Obama will be blamed for the damage that will result on the shoreline of the Gulf coast? He failed to protect US waters and people who depend on them. Also, his administration had failed to adequately reform the Minerals Management Service, the scandal-ridden federal agency that for years had ssentially allowed the oil industry to do what it planed under self-regulation. There have been people who said that the Obama Administration did not react fast enough and slack in fixing the crisis. BP definitely bears the responsibility of the deep water disaster, but is it the only entity involved in the largest offshore oil spill in US history? In this paper, I shall argue that it is not Just BP that bears responsibility for spill, Obama administration is responsible too. BP: Surely they have to pay all of the damages suffered around Gulf Coast since they have violated the morality in many ays. Firstly, the deepwater disaster is partly due to the companys own shortage in engineering testing. According to due care theory, manufactures responsibility would extend to three areas including design, production and information. The key problem caused leaking is that BP has not exercised enough due care on production area. The production manager should control the manufacturing processes so as to eliminate any defective items, identify any weakness that become apparent during production. (Manuel 2006). It is interesting to note that this heart problem not only symbolizes Mrs. Mallard’s restriction, but it also represents her ambivalence toward her marriage. That is although she is faithful and devout toward her husband, she desperately wishes to experience freedom outside of her marriage, most likely not in a promiscuous manner, but, to experience the freedom from not being obligated nor obliged. These two very different settings, and two very different characters play a very similar role in their own stories. They both feel restricted by their better halves – Mitty by his wife, Mrs. Mallard by her husband. Thus in analyzing the theme of these two stories respectively, it is clear that both authors wish to portray that a certain sense of freedom is stripped from the characters, a consequential result of marriage. Although the theme of both stories are similar, the writing style has considerable differences. Consider the following, â€Å"The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, theme aside, it about a playful imagination. There are several symbols, imagery and allegories that affect Walter Mitty, and send him into his imaginative daisy. It is very clear then, that Thurber’s writing style has an imaginative influence. For example, look back to the beginning part of the piece again and not how Thurber describes the rainy weather as: a terrible storm raging. † By using this metaphor, Thurber clearly engages the readers mind in an imaginative way. Another example is when Mitty describes sound of the hotel lobby doors as faintly derisive whistling, it is clear therefore to see that there is a playfulness, and a great detail of description through imagery in Thurber’s writing. Unlike Thurber however, Chopin’s piece is a lot darker – It isn’t as playful as Thurber’s.
